Lately, life had been pretty good for Aran. She had gotten the job of a lifetime working for an overloridian, got to live in a fucking mansion (in the "servant's quarters", but who gave a shit?), and was getting the fuck out of Stonecraft forever.
Aran had lived in this god forsaken city her entire life. She had taken shelter in sewers during bad winters. She had seen people die in ditches on the side of the road. She'd seen her friends lose what little they had to drugs and debts. She herself had beat the everloving shit out of other children for money.
And now she was leaving for good. Forever.
She had been part of a very tightknit group here when she was younger. Very few of them were still around. Some, like her, had gotten out. Some hadn't made it at all. Some had turned on the others. It was almost surreal now, to Aran, thinking how it used to be. There was nothing keeping her here anymore.
She had returned for one reason, because she forgot to return her key to her landlord. She didn't see why it mattered, the lock on the door was broken anyways. The door itself didn't even latch. But whatever. It was done and she was leaving for good.
